Freudenstadt is 91 kilometers (57 miles) north of Freiburg and 22 kilometers (14 miles) southwest of Altensteig. This Black Forest resort town covers 87,59 square kilometers with a population of over 30,000 residents. It is the second largest city in the county with hundreds of villas pushing up the neighboring slopes.

History:
The city of Freudenstadt was originally built during the early 17th century as a model city by Prince Frederick I of Wurttemberg. It was used to house the workers of the early silver mines and also the refugees of religious prosecution from what is now Austrian Corinthia.
